New York Jets (1988 Team Highlights)
Based on the New York Jets' lack of experience and disappointing 1987 season, the "experts" predicted the team would come up short again in 1988. They forgot to measure the most important trait a football team can have: pride. The Jets scoffed at talk of their downfall and became one of the NFL's most surprising, and exciting, teams of the season.
NFL pass catching champion Al Toon fueled the explosive Jet offense. Pro Bowl-bound rookie Erik McMillan led a babyfaced defense which achieved a level of excellence beyond its years. It was a combination that worked. A season sweep over the Jets' division rival, the Miami Dolphins, and a thrilling season finale against the crosstown rival New York Giants told the story: the Jets are a team experiencing "An Affirmation of Pride."
